Dissolve yeast in water and sugar. Let set for 5 mintues. Add remaining ingredients. Mix thoroughly and knead. Let set to rise for 30 mintues.
I then roll out the dough and cut them into shapes. If don’t have a deep fat fryer to fry them in just use a frying pan with high sides, pour in some oil, and heat. You can save the oil you used if you strain it well and keep it in the refrigerator.
I love to eat these with honey butter. Be sure you make this with the cubed margarine or butter-not the spreadable stuff.
Whip butter until light and fluffy. Slowly add the honey and vanilla. Whip 2 to 3 minutes longer. Cover and store well. Yield 1 1/2 cups.
